GDC: CryENGINE 2 -Streets of San Francisco-

Crytek Information...

With the GDC in San Francisco being in full motion more and more reports about presentations from Crytek find their way into the web. One impressive realtime video has been posted by a user on GameTrailers.com which you definitely should not miss out.

Description
Quite a bit is known about the video demonstration Crytek has released at the GDC. The video is not pre-rendered and shows off the physics capabilities of the CryENGINE2 in realtime. The engine can handle several hundred "teapots" at once including dynamic shadows which you can see ingame.

The video is based on a level that has been created especially for this showcase. It also can be played live at the Crytek booth on the machines that are provided there. This provides full interaction with the level itself while the physics demonstration is proceding.

Video Demonstration
The whole playable level has been captured in realtime and was then put in the loop with a few other engine demonstrations on the big flat screen at the Crytek booth. From there it has been recorded in low/medium quality by a user from GameTrailers.com.

UPDATE: Ich (WarpSpeed) war mal so frei den Text ins Deutsche zu übersetzen.

Die Berichte von der GDC in San Francisco finden immer mehr ihren Weg in das Internet. Auf GameTrailers hat ein Benutzer ein beeindruckendes Echtzeit (Realtime) Video veröffentlicht, dass ihr euch nicht entgehen lassen solltet.

Beschreibung
Ein paar Informationen des Crytek Videos von der GDC sind bekannt. Das Video ist nicht vorgerendert und zeigt die Möglichkeiten der CryENGINE2 in Echtzeit (Realtime). Die Engine kann, wie es die Ingame-Szene zeigt, hunderte "Teepöte" inkl. dynamischen Schatten in Echtzeit (Realtime) darstellen.

Das Video basiert auf einem Level, dass explizit für die Vorführung auf der GDC erstellt wurde. Es kann an dem Crytek Stand, der extra PCs dafür aufweist, angespielt werden. Man kann, während die "Teepot-Physik-Demonstration" läuft, mit der Umgebung interagieren.

Video Demonstration
Das gesamte spielbare Level wurde in Echtzeit aufgenommen und dann als "Loop" mit anderen CryENGINE2 Demonstrationen auf einem grossem Flachbildschirm am Crytek Stand abgepielt. Von dort wurde es in niedriger/mittlerer Qualität von einem Besucher aufgezeichnet und auf GameTrailers.com hochgeladen.

Crysis-HQ.com @ Giga Games TV

Gestern war es endlich soweit, da erhielt ich eine Mail und ICQ Message von meinem Kumpel und Kollegen dem Giga Digital TV Moderator - Tim Feldner.

Zum Abend wurde auf der Live Sendung GigaGames der Sandbox 2 Editor näher vorgestellt und erklärt.

Als Quelle für das deutsche Tutorial wurde unsere Webseite also Crysis-HQ gewählt. Neben der Vorstellung des Editors wurden auch Usermaps vorgestellt.

Hiermit bedankt sich das Crysis-HQ Team bei Tim Feldner für seine sehr gute Präsentation und Lob unserer Webseite.

PCGames: DX10-Walkthrough-Video

Die Kollegen von "PCGames" haben ein 40 minütiges DX10 Gameplay Video von der Crysis SP Demo Online (als Stream und Download) gestellt.

Hier die Originalmitteilung:

Sie wollen wissen, wie die Crysis-Demo unter Direct X 10 aussieht? Dann empfehlen wir unser Video was Sie unten im Stream finden. Wir spielten die Demo komplett durch und ließen das Aufnahmeprogramm Fraps nebenbei laufen. Das Ergebnis können Sie jetzt betrachten.

Wir spielten auf einem Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 mit 4 GB-RAM und einer GeForce 8800 Ultra. Die Auflösung betrug, durch Fraps bedingt, 1024x768. Wir verwendeten 16faches Anti Aliasing und stellten die Details auf Very High. Trotz dem im Hintergrund laufenden Programm kamen wir auf noch spielbare 20 FPS.

Exklusiv: Crysis - Zero Gravity Gameplay

Hier eine News von EuroGamer...

Der Donnerstag hat gerade erst begonnen (mehr oder weniger), da möchten wir Euch schon mit einem exklusiven Video auf Trab bringen. Und "auf Trab bringen" ist in diesem Fall sogar überaus treffend, zeigt das knapp 3,5 minütige Filmchen doch einen ausführlichen Ausblick auf eine etwas andere, nennen wir es mal "Fortbewegungsart" im kommenden Actionkracher Crysis. Lange Rede, viel zu viel Spannung: Ab sofort dürft Ihr in unserem rundum erneuerten EurogamerTV das "Zero Gravity-Gameplay" bestaunen.

Die Hauptfigur schwebt dabei durch ein groß angelegtes Alienraumschiff, bedient sich mal hier und da einer Statusaufbesserung (maximale Stärke, maximale Schnelligkeit, etc.) und schickt mit seinem Totmacher allerlei fliegendes Geviech in die ewigen Jagdgründe. Anschauen lohnt sich!

Games Convention Asia 07 - Infos!

Unsere Kollegen und guten Freunde von InCrysis haben eine Menge neuer Infos von der Games Convention Asia 2007 durch ihr Mitglied "ShingShing" erhalten.

"ShingShing" hat sich eine Menge Mühe gegeben und alle Infos und Eindrücke in einem Forenthread wiedergegeben. Neben dem bekannten "Contact" SP Demo-Level, gab es für die GCA noch ein anderes Demolevel, was wir bisher nicht kannten.

UPDATE: "ShingShing" hat 21 Videos zur Verfügung gestellt. Ihr könnt euch das Videopaket (überarbeitet von Mocib -> InCrysis) über die Related Links runterladen.

Sehr eindrucksvoll sind auch die Hardwareangaben, bei denen das Spiel auf 640x480 (was bezweifelt werden darf) gezeigt wurde:

AMD 64 X2 5600+ 2.8GHz
2GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT (VRAM unknown, DxDiag stated 1492MB)
Windows Vista + DirectX10
HP w1907 19" Monitor (1440x900)

The computer I was playing on most of the time had auto detect Medium, and 640x480 resolution. It was mostly playable with these settings. Other computers had varying settings that I didn't manage to get, but were mainly playable with some lag. A French guy tried to set all settings to Very High, and the computer hung while changing settings.. (Zitat: ShingShing @InCrysis.com)

Eine weitere etwas traurige Info ist, dass man aus aktuellem Anlaß Ragdoll bei getöteten Computergegnern ganz aus dem Spiel entfernt hat. In unserem Forum entfacht eine Diskussion, zu der wir euch hiermit einladen.

At Looki.de there's an Interview with "Cevat Yerli" (CEO von CryTek) and "Benjamin Kratsch" from Looki available. It includes some infos about A.I., DX10 features and story. Also they have arranged a interesting Crysis Preview.

At GameSpot.com you can find a really good article about CryEnige2 and why it's prefered for building games. Cryteks Development Director and Licensing Manager, Harald Seely gives advise about these things.

Es ist erneut ein Preview zu Crysis aufgetaucht. Dieses Mal gewährt uns www.gamespot.com einen kleinen Einblick in die Nichtlinearität des Gameplays.

Konkret wird an einem Beispiel erklärt, wie sich jede getroffene Entscheidung auf zukünftige Ereignisse auswirken kann. So soll man zum Beispiel während eines Einsatzes einen SOS-Notruf koreanischer Soldaten empfangen, die sich gerade im Kampf mit den Aliens befinden.

Zu diesem Zeitpunkt ist man schon mit den Koreanern verbündet und man steht vor der Entscheidung, ob man seinen Aliierten im Kampf gegen die Aliens helfen möchte oder ob man die Mission wie geplant durchführt und den Notruf misachtet.

Entschließt man sich dem Notruf zu folgen, hat man wiederum mehrere Möglichkeiten wie man mit der Situation umgeht. Man kann den Koreanern dabei helfen die Aliens zu bekämpfen oder man kann auch einfach nur dem Kampf zusehen. Man kann natürlich auch die Koreaner angreifen, wenn man das möchte.

Anschließend muss man aber auch mit den Konsequenzen leben, die sich daraus ergeben. Zum Beispiel gibt es in der Gruppe der Koreaner einen Soldaten, der ein Gauss-Gewehr besitzt, welches man normalerweise erst viel später in dem Level findet.

Sollte dieser Soldat sterben, dann kann man dieses Gewehr aufheben und schon viel eher im Level verwenden. Allerdings kann der Tod dieses Soldaten auch verherendere Auswirkungen in der Zukunft haben. Der Spieler muss also abwägen, ob ihm das Gewehr so wichtig ist, dass es sich lohnt dafür einen Aliierten zu töten oder nicht.

Des Weiteren werden in dem Preview noch die unterschiedlichen Schwierigkeitsgrade angesprochen. Es wird nicht genannt, wie viele es geben wird, aber die niedrigste Stufe soll leicher sein, als FarCry und die höchste Stufe soll extrem schwierig sein, aber auch die meiste Action bieten.

Alles in Allem ist es ein zwar recht kurzes, dafür aber informatives und lesenswertes Preview, zumal es auch noch drei neue Screenshots enthält, die wir euch nicht vorenthalten wollen.

This video (from our Crysis-HQ outdoor team... GC was great!) includes 15 minutes Crysis Multiplayer Gameplay with audio comments (in german) by Alexander Marshall, Assassin & WarpSpeed. You can hear how they talk about the physic in MP mode (there'll be FULL physics support in MP!), equipment, reinforcements (tanks...) and more.

Also we asked Alex about the used hardware. Normal PCs (no laptop), no overclocking (unknown CPU), one graphiccard (no SLI system) and 2 GB RAM (which is very important (for the textures preload) Alex told us!). I wrote a long report in german about our visit at GC2006. I'll do my best to translate the full german article (which is much more informative) into english in the next 24 hours.

Crysis-HQ.com Messebericht & MP Gameplay Audio/Video

So, hier wie versprochen der Messebericht. Da ich ihn schon zu später Stunde geschrieben habe, will ich nicht ausschliessen, dass ich ihn Morgen noch etwas überarbeite. Falls ihr das Video auf eurer Webseite anbietet, setzt doch bitte einen Link zurück zu uns, DANKE!

Die Fahrt war schon mal recht anstrengend... 6,5 Stunden für eigentlich 3,5 geplante Stunden. Naja, Stau gehört halt dazu. Die Ankunft am Messezentrum lies die Qual aber gleich verfliegen. Dummerweise hatten wir bei Halle 4 geparkt und es fing prompt an zu regnen als wir das Auto verliessen. D.h. durch Halle 4 und 5 durch, zu Halle 3 (nix aussenrum), wo EA/Crytek ihren Stand hatten. Nach 2 Stunden endlich dort angekommen (man, war das voll diesmal!) erstmal der Schock... alles total voll. Vor den Crysis PCs war eine ewig lange Schlange. Naja, dank einigen Community Mitgliedern (noch mal ein GROSSES DANKE an eben diese!) wurde Alexander Marshall (Crytek) "vorgewarnt" und wir konnten direkt an die PCs. Sorry an die Jungs & Mädels die angestanden haben... einge haben wirklich böse geschaut. Man muss sagen, dass diesmal sehr viele weibliche Besucher anwesend waren (weiter so!). Also, wir also in den Crysis-Spielebereich, Kamera vorbereitet und gewartet bis der Server und die anderen Spieler soweit waren. Dann ging es los... da ich die Kamera gehalten habe, hatte ich nach 5 Minuten schon einen tauben Arm. Vergebt mir also, dass das Bild ab und an mal etwas aus dem Ruder läuft.

So, nun ein paar Infos... Die Systeme auf der Messe waren handelsübliche PCs (keine Laptops!), ohne Dual Grafikkarte oder sonstige Finessen. Welche Grafikkrate & CPU genau, konnte bzw. wollte uns Alex leider nicht verraten. Das einzige was etwas grösser war als normal nämlich 2GB, war der RAM-Ausbau. Es gab zwar ab und an ein paar Hänger aber das Spiel ist ja auch noch nicht fertig. Hier noch ein paar Zusammenfassungen aus den Audio Kommentaren (von Alexander Marshall, Assassin & WarpSpeed) des Videos. Zu Beginn erklärt Alex einiges zur Steuerung. Im Laufe des Videos wird erwähnt wie man zu z.B. Fahrzeugen kommt, was auch demonstriert wird. Des Weiteren bestätigt er, dass es volle Physik (synchron) im Multiplayer Modus geben wird. Wer genau hinhört, kann hören wie ich frage, ob das auch technisch machbar ist (Netzwerkcode). Diese meiste Zeit redet Alexander Marshall, hört also genau hin!

Ich denke für alle anderen Kommentare und Informationen... schaut und hört euch das Video einfach an.

Cevat Yerli and Jack Mamais Interview

This video (in MPG format - 480x272 - 5:21 min) shows an interview (in english) with Cevat Yerli, president of Crytek and Jack Mamais, Crytek Designer.

Cevat talks about the success of Farcry and what they used from it for Crysis. Also you can see the crossing to the ice-area and why they chosen the ice-thematic with aliens. During the Crysis story the player learns more and more about the aliens and why they're here on earth.

Jack Mamais explains a little bit the equipment of the mainchar and his identity. Also he explains the message ("...all for all...") behind the story. Last but not least, you can hear the anticipated "releasedate", which will be winter 2006.

Cevat Yerli und Jack Mamais Interview

Dieses Video (im MPG Format - 480x272 - 5:21 Min) zeigt ein Interview (in Englisch) mit Cevat Yerli, dem Präsident von Crytek und Jack Mamais, Designer von Crytek.

Es geht im Großen und Ganzen darum, warum FarCry so erfolgreich war und was davon für Crysis übernommen/erweitert wurde. Ausserdem wird der Übergang ins/zum Eis gezeigt und erklärt wie es zu dem Eis-Thema mit Aliens kam. Im Laufe der Crysis Story wird dann nach und nach erkenntlich warum die Aliens zu uns gekommen sind.

Jack Mamais gibt eine kleine Beschreibung des Hauptcharakters und über dessen verfügbares Arsenal ab und erklärt die "Botschaft" hinter der Story ("...alle zusammen halten..."). Zu guter Letzt wird ein voraussichtlicher "Releasetermin" für den Winter 2006 genannt.

We've two "new" videos for you, maybe you don't known them before. Both videos are recorded with a camcorder but the quality is quite good.

The first video shows the alien fight on the carrier.

The second video shows an interview with "Sten Hübler", the Crytek - Lead Level Designer. From the second half of this video you can see more Crysis Gameplay. You can see someone destroying trees from a vehicle mounted gun. The "interviewer" is speechlees!

Wir haben noch zwei "neue" Videos für euch, die der eine oder andere evtl. noch nicht kennt. Aufgenommen wurde beide Videos mit einem Camcorder, die Qualität ist aber recht brauchbar.

Das erste Video zeigt den Kampf mit dem Alien an Board des Flugzeugträgers.

Das zweite Video zeigt in der ersten Hälfte ein Interview mit "Sten Hübler", dem Crytek - Lead Level Designer. Ab der zweiten Hälfte geht es um das Gameplay (Spielerlebniss). Es werden u.a. Bäume, von einer an einem Fahrzeug montiereten Waffe "zerlegt". Der "Interviewer" kommt aus dem staunen kaum raus!

Die Themen in dem Interviewteil sind folgende:

Microsoft Press Conference
Heute Nacht wurde auf der E3 von seiten Microsofts die Pressekonferenz gehalten! In dieser geht es um die XBox360 und entliche Spiele für die XBox360. Aber es kommt noch was, und zwar eine Presentation von Windows Vista, was auch nicht ganz unlogisch erscheinen mag!

Aber nun kommt der klou dabei. In dieser Presentation hielt auch Crysis Einzug! Ja ganz genau, Crysis! In dem Video wird einiges aus der E3 Demo gezeigt und auch "angespielt" und das von niemand anderem vorgestellt als von "Chris Donahue"!

In diesem Video kann man atemberaubende InGame Grafik betrachten und noch einiges mehr.

Aber ich will euch nicht die Vorfreude nehmen, schaut euch das Movie selbst an!

CryTek - Cevat Yerli - Interview -IGN-

A (9:04 min) video (in WMV format), which shows an interview from IGN with "Cevat Yerli" from CryTek.

A topic in this video is, that Cryis will have a better multiplayer mode than FarCry in due time. Furthermore the multiplayer mode will support up to 32 players.
